There are several passages within the Old Testament which are interpreted by Christians as being prophetic of John the Baptist in this role. These include a passage in the Book of Malachi 3:1 that refers to a prophet who would prepare the way of the Lord:
"Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. — Malachi 3:1

Note: John the Baptist and not John the Apostle (John the Revelator, author of the book of 'Revelation' {or the book of the Apocalypse in some Bible tranlations/Spanish}) was related to Jesus. John the Baptist was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth (Luke 1:5-25). Jesus was Mary's son, conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:26-38). Mary was Elizabeth's cousin (Luke 1:36). So the relation between Jesus and John the Baptist was that of second cousins.

The Sabbath Worship Controversy
Happy Sabbath!
It is very sad that once you realize the truth about the Sabbath, you find that only a few Churches scattered within some denominations respect the Sabbath as the day of worship. And the only denomination known to apply the Sabbath worship universally in within their denomination is the Seventh Day Adventist Church of course. Sure, they may have their own internal problems also like any other Church, but they like to study the Bible very carefully, and that's what I like myself, that should be done by everyone interested in the knowing the word of God. The Hebrew Orthodox Christians should not be the only ones looking at the Bible very closely.
I was immediately attracted to a church's sign that read 'St. Paul's Reformed Church' the other day, but not only did the 'St.' (Catholic-paganized term) throw me off immediately, but also was saddened to see "SUNDAY WORSHIP" on the bulletin-board. It has a warm looking building for a church too.
References to the keeping of the Sabbath in the Bible:
Whichever way you look at it; the word 'Sabbath' translating to 'Sunday,' or Sunday being the worship day as defined by the activities under the term 'Sabbath' (which is described as day of FEAST only in the Bible, and not worship), the Bible does not support either, and more importantly it does clearly describe the LORD's Day as the 'Sabbath' (the 7th day of our creation) starting from Genesis and all the way to the book of Revelation. So, if you look at the Bible as a whole, which is how to study the message of any written work, the day of worship is always the Sabbath, the 7th day of creation. It seems like this was to be one of the items to define the real Church from the fallen Church in the last days. There appears to be various tests even to the believers in the Bible in different topics, different levels, and this is not the only one either.

What Happened in Eden?
What happened in Eden?
Death of the body, our plants grew thorns (and who knows if mind altering drugs had an original good purpose or not) after this:

There was guilt on Adam (probably) for letting Eve wonder by herself, and on Eve herself for braking the law that was our test to prove our allegiance to God and his Angels. God drove them out of the garden to keep them from eating of the Tree of Life and gaining additional immortal attributes like those of Satan after the fact of falling in sin.

The Controlled Message of the Media
It is very interesting and self-evident how the mainstream media's programming is specifically steered to a Godless message. A constant denial of knowledge that may lead to the concept of God, or sometimes any Godly religion altogether.
If you examine the purpose of the Separation of Church and State, for example, a clear agenda that is not to "separate," but more actively to deny the Church altogether, which is what it actually has done, it's serving the same purpose that the secularized media programming is serving. Most TV watchers, including myself for sometime, don't look beyond the presentation that they're watching and examine the overall message. That's how the programming part of TV programming works on the individual also, but when you do examine all the programming that you watch you will see a clear big picture. This clear big picture is that there is a constant agenda to deny any believe in God, and specifically the believe in God from a protestant/reformed Christian point of view. This is the unseen handle being steered in all popular shows like Oprah, The View, 60 Minutes, morning shows, sitcoms, music videos, including Hollywood movies, etc. So, who is/are behind these programming scripts, edits, screenplays? The same common anti-Godly belief system, that's for sure. This agenda gets more blatant and loud over time, and it's really easy to see this on any program running right now. A denial attack on God, that it's not by accident or coincidence, like they would want the viewer to keep subconsciously believing. This gets great help from the overall secularized TV programming, including commercials altogether. Do you see the whole system structure now?
I was watching a show on the paranormal sometime ago, and these shows are a theme on TV for the last ten years or so, evermore popular. Though, the message being put out by these shows is what is disturbing! One example, and outer-body experience: "I saw a tunnel," "I saw bright lights," "there was nothing but space, stars, darkness," and they will not show ever, very rarely, someone that has had an outer-body experience "seeing Heaven," or those that "have seen Hell." No! Never, they cannot have the viewer listen an visualize these testimonies, that leads the viewer to the concept of Heaven and Hell, God and the scriptures. This is just one case of programming of the many line-ups. Our TV's programming stream is toxic. The level of lying stinks!

We're being tossed around all over the place in a monopoly game where money is the main control method of those hosting the game. You're just a money runner! The only difference in this monopoly board is that the money is limitless to those in power, they control the printing factories. They collapse the economies they wish to rebuild to profit from by putting them in debt, and this way also propagating more bondage to money around the globe and poverty as a result. That's why there are countries that will never be able to repay the external debt applied to them, and that's the sick point (money over people). Welcome to the real world! Where the ones awake and the few "world owners" are in a race against time. Will the globe wake up first or will times get really bad as prophesized in the scriptures of the Bible and other sources? Unfortunately, but rightfully, the Biblical view is being 100% accurate.

If everyone in the world stopped working for money and instead rewarded themselves with what they needed or may desire, managing material resources effectively, it would be illogical to submit oneself to a routine of physical labor controlled by a few on top getting the most profit.
This is how the monetary scheme is designed to run, including its extension the market; the propagation of greed by building circles of exclusive high income holders, inviting them to exploit their positional powers, while also discriminating everyone else outside that circle to be forced to live a less desirable life with a lower income.
